TALLINN, ESTONIA

My parents spent their childhoods in the medieval center of Tallinn. A UNESCO heritage site, the city center is full of crooked streets, stone towers, 13th-century merchant meeting places from Hanseatic League days, and the occasional dragon spout. There is an element of everyday fairytale wonder here, shaped by the richly preserved medieval and contemporary architecture layers, which ties to my belief that architecture shapes identity and community and acts as a container and inspiration for our continuing histories.
