A traditional painting exercise is to study fabric, expressing the folds, light, shade, and color. The exercise of drawing and studying rocks has become my version of this, dating back to my sketches before I came to California. I love capturing how large rock formations mirror and take form from their environments. I try to capture that sense of permanence mixed with a continual becoming in my architectural work.
