Rhythm House
A series of views, culminating in a 360° panorama, draw in the beach and the ocean.
Conceptual rendering by Luke Ogrydziak.
This beach-house is on a 100'-wide lot on the Pacific Ocean, several miles north of Mendocino at MacKerricker State Park. The house is the intersection of two distinct forms: a 'lighthouse' and a larger 'body'. Programmatically, this main body is organized around an open second floor platform, providing ocean views above the beachfront sand dunes. The lighthouse form is resonant with but not imitative of an historical lighthouse. At the top, the signal room becomes a large all-glass lookout, complete with a metal catwalk and 'open' railing.
