Krems, Austria. Conversion of 16th century castle into health spa.
One of three finalists in an invited competition, this project converts a 16th century castle into a luxury health spa. The new U-shaped plan encloses the existing courtyard, doubling its size. Parking is provided beneath the elevated ground plane of this extension. The level change between old and new is marked by the four-pointed tower -- the symbolic center of the new castle.
